The Ford Explorer Lineup Adds New ST and Hybrid Trims

For years now, the Ford Explorer has been the image, for countless drivers, of what an SUV should be. The go-to SUV for a wide array of different drivers, it would be easy for Ford to just let the Explorer be the Explorer. Never one to rest on its laurels, though, Ford is investing no small effort in making sure the next Explorer is the best one yet.

New Trim Options for Performance and Efficiency

What sorts of improvements can you expect from the 2020 Ford Explorer? A pair of brand-new trim options, for one. In addition to its usual spread of trim models, the 2020 Explorer will also provide new ST and Explorer Hybrid models.

Built to provide a higher level of performance, the Explorer ST will come equipped with a powerful 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 designed. Specially tuned to deliver a more impressive output, this engine will provide up to 400 horsepower with 415 pounds-feet of torque. That's enough to reach a top speed of up to 143 miles per hour.

The Explorer Hybrid, meanwhile, will utilize a 3.3-liter hybrid V6 powertrain. While it might not provide as much in the way of performance, it definitely impresses in terms of fuel economy. EPA-estimates suggest that the Explorer Hybrid will be capable of squeezing more than 500 miles out of a single tank of gas.
